“Go and stand in the gap”
Lawrence joined Living Waters about nine months before the COVID pandemic after sensing God telling him to "go and stand in the gap"—to be a bridge supporting the church wherever needed. Although he had no prior experience serving on a church staff team, he was drawn to the close-knit community at Living Waters and the opportunity to serve in practical ways.
Around church, many know him affectionately as "Admin Uncle." On any given week, he could be preparing service materials, coordinating baptisms and membership classes, managing facilities and IT, updating the website, ordering supplies, troubleshooting unexpected problems—or simply helping wherever help is needed. As he puts it, his role is "basically rojak."
Having grown up in a Christian family and spent most of his school years in Christian schools, Lawrence has seen God's faithfulness throughout his life. One principle continues to guide him: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart..." Alongside that, he likes to keep things simple—make sense, not noise.
What excites Lawrence most is seeing what God can do through a church with a strong next generation and people who are passionate about being channels for His work.
Outside church, he enjoys good food (perhaps a little too much), walking and trekking (perhaps not enough), watching everything from comedy to travel shows, and working with his hands through gardening, cooking and DIY projects. He lives with and cares for his elderly mother, and is grateful for the faithful helper who enables him to serve both at home and at church.
